I am here to ask for help.  I have way too much debt for a single, 35 year old woman.  For the past 8 years I was dating someone who was very ill.  He had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (Cancer) which was in remission.  The after effects turned out to be worse than the cancer itself.  As the years went by, his condition worsened.  He was unable to work and had no family to tend to him.  Although he received Disability payments and was eligible for food stamps, I found out how quickly it went.  

As a result, as I was all that he had to rely on, I found myself helping more than I was actually able to.  There were everyday expenses as well as food (after the food stamps ran out, which only took about a week) and medication that was not covered by the State medical plan.  As it goes, I helped until I was unable to help any more.  As well as financial needs, I tended to every need that had to be met...hospital stays, cleaning, cooking, feeding, etc.

Over the years, I've asked every agency that I could find for assistance, spoke to every hospital in the area until I was absolutely exhausted and broke.  Now, he is being taken care of by someone who is able to provide all that he needs, and I am left with enormous bills.  I had taken loans, credit cards and any other financial help that I could get.  However, I am now overwhelmed by the amount of bills (totaling almost $45,000) and am finding it very difficult to pay my own monthly bills, much less the loans and credit cards.

My parents are both in their 70's and beginning to show signs of their age.  My dad had heart surgery 3 years ago and was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago.  I thank God everyday that he is doing well, but it pains me to see that my dad still works to make ends meet, as all the income they have is Social Security (and a small amount at that).  Although my dad enjoys his work, and my parents enjoy life everyday and every chance that they get, I had hoped at this point and time of my life that I would be able to do so much more for them.
