Though words are my world, I will make every attempt to keep this brief. But as an aspiring novelist, my idea of brief will likely vary from your idea of brief. For that I am sorry.

Ever since I was 7 years old and my teacher said I wrote the best paragraph in the whole 2nd grade class,  I have wanted to be a writer. I grew up telling my friends, family, teachers, and basically anyone that would listen that I was going to be a famous novelist one day.

Well, as they say, “life is what happens while you’re making other plans”. 
I adore my mother (same old story, single mom doing the best she can to raise her two daughters) but life and time left her unable to guide me in certain realities of life. Though she loves me, Mom didn’t teach me about money. By osmosis, I left with the impression that there’s never enough.

Uneducated in financial matters, I fell victim to the biggest con game in the world: luring young, naïve college students into applying for credit with free t-shirts, pizzas, music, and so forth. 

Fast forward 13 years and you have a 31 year-old woman whose life is mediocre at best compared to her dreams.  I no longer dream of being the next Nora Roberts. Just one published novel would allow me to say that I did what I always said I would do. But with the debts I carry ($33,000 combined credit card and student loan debts, not including the $103,000 mortgage I share with my sister) I am working just to make ends meet and pay off those awful credit cards. There's little time (and less focus)to devote to my dream.

Ironically, I now work for a major credit card company.  How I wish I had known at 18 (standing in front of those evil credit pushers…) what I know at 31. But since we can’t rewind time, I can only keep chipping away at  things. 

I have made anonymous donations to some customers, sending a money order and a poem I wrote, hoping it will show them things will get better. Anyway, I believe that what goes around comes around. I hope to receive now so that I might get out of debt, which will allow me to go part time at work. In turn, this will allow me the time I need to continue researching and writing my “Great American Novel”. If a romance novel can be considered great.  I think it can…look at The Notebook or The Bridges of Madison County!  

I plan to continue my private donations to others in credit trouble (and now I have this site, so I won’t risk termination by getting involved w/ our customers!)  After all, she who gives also receives! 

Here’s hoping you will one day find my novel amidst those of my favorite authors: Nora Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, and Cara Lockwood.
